BASKERVILLE’S COFFEE HOUSE WINS START UP OF THE YEAR AWARD AT INDEPENDENT BUSINESS AWARDS KENT

Eight months since it launched and Baskerville’s Coffee House, in Maidstone has been awarded the accolade of Start-up Business of the Year at Kent’s Independent Business Awards.
The new coffee house was also a finalist forrestaurant/bar/café of the year and the service excellence award.

Owner Celeste Baskerville, made the decision last year to ditch her International Business Development Manager job to follow her life-long dream of opening a coffee shop. Since it launched in February, Baskerville’s, in Allington, has carved out a niche as a dog-friendly café which also offers a variety of vegan options and has become number one on Trip Advisor for coffee and teashops in Maidstone, with 5* excellent reviews.

She says; “I’m still overwhelmed that we have won. This year has been a whirlwind setting up the business and working six days a week, so this has been a fabulous boost for all of our hard work. Giving up a good career to pursue a dream is a huge risk and had no experience in coffee shops at all; just an ambition that had burned away for 20 years. As my job role began to change at work, I took the decision to go for it and thought, it’s now or never!

“As a new start-up business, it is sometimes hard to take stock of everything you have achieved so far, as you’re still looking ahead with your business plan. Awards such as this give you the vital opportunity to review your successes so far and recognise that you’re going in the right direction!”

Hilary Steele from the IBAK awards said: “Baskerville’s are in a strong start-up position and demonstrated a resilience to push forward for what may well be an exciting growth phase.  The application was honest and personable and the judges were able to gain a clear understanding of what the last eight months have meant for Celeste.”

Following the awards ceremony on Friday (12thOctober), Celeste is back at Baskerville’s celebrating with her customers and proudly displaying the award at the front counter.
